I took the original pictures for these works in the year of the 100th anniversary of a legislature building in Canada. I wasn't particularly conscious of the 100th anniversary, and I had been taking pictures of this landscape in the years before and after. Also, even now that the bridge* has been newly replaced, I continue to shoot in a similar landscape.
This work is the first in my current style of sequential landscape installation art using a horizontal rectangular frame. When I was sorting through my photos to decide on the theme of the work to realize the idea, I happened to notice that I had been taking these photos that year as well. That's how I decided.
I decided on the subtitle (or organizing name) of the work after I selected the images, and I remember thinking of making it something other than the "Legislature Building ". And since it was only one year out of 100 years, I came up with the word "1/100th". What I have accumulated and expressed is only one year in a hundred years, but I imagine that an idea of a hundred years is used to be formed by connection and extension of such a short step. This was at least motivating to express for me.
People have a sense that their existence and the environment that surrounds them are unique and different from others. At the same time, people also have a sense that they are something that is recognized and affirmed by the world at large. Art makes this possible. I think this applies to my activities as well. It means extending personal and local things to universal ideas by means of expression.
Through these video works, I would like to continue to express the possibility that everyday things can have a broader meaning.

This Old Film series has the same core expression intent as the Original Stills series. I have decided on this work as a group of works that expected expandability of expression by combination, not just a single piece. At that time, I considered adding something a little more interpreted. I wanted something that could express the passage of time and the fact that it is already passing beyond the 100th year. That is this old film series.
The 01 and 02 Art Video images are included the forms and perceptual transitions of buds, the beginning of bloom, full bloom, and new leaves during the blooming season. When shooting, I always try to record the images with as little intention or emotion as possible. This is because they naturally enter into my decision when processing the work's expression. Still, the change of scenery during the blooming season is impressive. It seems to give life to an old building.
